POKOTABI / Fukurou
大衆食堂フクロウ
Located in the Kyobashi OM Building, Fukurou serves self-selected teishoku lunches built around substantial soups and side dishes, shifting to fried horse mackerel and izakaya plates by night.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Mealtime begins with picking up a tray and selecting a steaming bowl of soup. Located in the Kyobashi OM Building in Kyobashi 1-chome, Fukurou is well regarded at lunchtime for its self-service set meals anchored by generous soups such as tonjiru pork soup or chicken soup. Diners can select white rice or brown rice, with the welcome option to top it with as much freshly shaved bonito flakes as they like. Choosing a few small side dishes and fried items from the row along the counter lets you tailor a meal precisely to your mood.
Come evening, the space transitions into a casual izakaya ideal for dropping in after work. Standout specialties include hand-prepared large fried horse mackerel served with crisp bone crackers, a mackerel sandwich on bread, and white potato salad drizzled with cheese sauce. The drinks menu is supported by straightforward tavern fare like simmered beef tendon, raw bell peppers with seasoned meat miso, and Tochio deep-fried tofu, paired with regional sake sourced nationwide, pre-diluted shochu poured from a kettle, or citrus sours.
To finish, the kitchen offers satisfying carb dishes such as niboshi ramen made with seafood bone broth, wagyu beef rice, and fragrant charred grilled onigiri. The spacious dining room easily accommodates solo diners as well as groups, making it a reliable stop when you want a substantial meal on a weekday.
